Chimerica

by Christopher Bailey

Directed by Carissa Meisner Smit

“Chimerica” is about a black male soldier named Kareem, between tours in the Middle East, who goes downstream in the deep south to visit Dale, the racist white father of a friend and fellow soldier killed in the line of duty.  Who happens to have been a woman.

It’s not long before the niceties break down and the unhealed wounds that date back to slavery and Jim Crow explode, including with Dale’s Cambodian-American daughter-in-law, Nikki, who—feeling marginalized by the two alpha males—fights back against both.
